photopia | for Rhino

The Next Generation of Photopia is inside Rhinoceros. Photopia users will have access to a full featured modern CAD system, allowing quicker optical designs and better interchange with Inventor, Creo Parametric, SolidEdge, Catia and other CAD systems.

New Plot Options in SOLIDWORKS and Rhino

Photopia for SOLIDWORKS and Rhino can now display grayscale, true color and false color plots, including legends, on both flat and curved surfaces. Plots can be of traditional metrics like illuminance, but also irradiance and many other custom options, including Delta u'v', allowing you to visualize the numeric color difference.

Smooth Lenses | Equation Driven Lenses

Within Solidworks you can now define smooth spherical lenses by their equation properties. The raytrace then uses this high resolution lens geometry to ensure that rays are traced along their true paths, avoiding the approximation with a meshed model of the lens.

One application of this tool is to create a projection image of your luminaire to analyze LED blending and also compute luminance across your luminaire.

UVC Disinfection | New Lamps, Materials and Fluence Tutorial

UVC disinfection is a popular topic and so we've made many library additions to Photopia 2020.1 for use in that area, including 20 UVC light sources and 7 UV specific materials. We've also created a tutorial that shows you how to compute Fluence in a Photopia project. Fluence is used to quantify the energy incident on particles in a volume and a common metric for UV disinfection.

More Color Materials

We've added 113 reflective materials that have full spectral data. This complements the wide range of color filter transmissive materials we also have in the Library. These materials are the 99 samples from the IES TM-30 CES and the 14 samples from the CIE 13.2 1974 CRI sample set. When combined with a full spectral lamp model, you can predict the color shift of light reflective off these materials.

3D Illuminance Planes

Now in Photopia for Solidworks illuminance planes are no longer limited to planar rectangles. You can create illuminance planes on any surface, allowing you greater flexibility in assessing your optical design.

Type A and B Photometry

Type A and B Photometry

Photopia for Solidworks and photopia | reports can now generate and open Type A and B photometric files, commonly used for floodlighting, aerospace, automotive, marine and signal lighting. There are new reports for these photometry types, including axial intensity plots, iso-candela plots, a floodlight summary, and standard automotive, aerospace, marine and floodlight reports types.

64bit Batch Raytrace

Photopia can now make use of a new 64-bit batch raytracer when memory becomes an issue. This will help run your largest simulations.

Dispersion

Photopia 2015 will trace refraction with varying index and extinction per wavelength, modeling the behavior of dispersion, which can lead to color separation in your optic.
