Stray Light Optical Analysis Software

Stray light in laser applications can pose a significant safety hazard and should be well understood, especially when optical benches are not in enclosures and non-visible wavelengths are being used.

It is also useful to see stray light paths in real applications where back reflections can damage other equipment in manufacturing environments, such as those using high output fiber lasers.

Photopia's direct integration into SOLIDWORKS makes it simple to import components from manufacturer libraries for the most complete analysis.

Source Model

Photopia contains a library of over 1389 light sources, including a range of lasers which you can place in your model. Lasers can be customized to have any emission wavelength, optical power, beam size, shape and divergence properties.

Optical Components

Since you're working inside of SOLIDWORKS, you can import a wide range of components from manufacturers to help layout your optical bench.

You can then assign optical material properties to mirrors, beam splitters, lenses and other components. Optical material properties can be selected from Photopia’s library or you can create custom materials using our open library format. Any values of directional reflection & transmission, lens extinction coefficients, AR coatings and indices of refraction can be set over any wavelength range. Photopia can also model material scattering with measured or theoretical BSDF data.

View 3D Rays

Follow stray light paths from Fresnel reflections or material scattering effects. Ray filtering allows you to view subsets of rays based on interactions with specific components or materials. You can also view specific ray reaction numbers. All filtered rays can be saved to a 3D sketch so you can use their paths for any additional modeling you require. Evaluate the magnitude of the light anywhere in the system with irradiance places or 3D recording objects.

View Irradiance

You can setup as many irradance surfaces as you wish in your system to allow you to see quantitative results to confirm the level of irradiation anywhere in the system with irradiance planes or 3D recording objects. Plane results can be viewed directly in SOLIDWORKS or exported to do any post processing you require.
